The Mirage recently unveiled an exciting beverage program featuring 30 intriguing cocktails. Careful thought went into each distinctive new drink resulting in stimulating flavor combinations, remarkable twists on old favorites and inventive garnishes which add striking detail to each libation. Four signature drinks are served at Fin, Onda Ristorante, kokomo’s, Samba, the High Limit Lounge, The Villas at The Mirage and the Sports Bar, along with six additional cocktails being served at select bars and lounges.
”The new cocktails featured at our restaurants were created using spirits and ingredients that best represent and complement the cuisine,” said Julian Griffiths, vice president of Food & Beverage for The Mirage. ”The drinks we serve at the High Limit Lounge and Sports Bar were designed specifically with our clientele in mind.”
Director of Beverage Peter Brattander, the mastermind behind the new program, used the restaurants, guests and resort as his inspiration. ”My team and I have put a lot of thought into these drinks as we specifically crafted them with The Mirage guest in mind. The spin we put on classic cocktails will allow them to venture into new territory, providing an unparalleled cocktail experience worthy of pleasing even the most discerning palate.”
The new beverage offerings are:
Samba
Traditionally, Batidas are prepared by combining tropical fruits with cachaça, a potent sugarcane liquor from Brazil. Samba now is offering a savory twist on this fruity concoction with the Cucumber Batida. Leblon Cachaca, Thatchers Organic Cucumber and cucumber slices are blended to frothy perfection then served with a slender cucumber dill fruit chip creating the perfect accompaniment to Samba’s robust cuisine. Those with a yen for a sweeter taste can try the Caipirinha Ultimo, the Pisco Passion or the Pineapple Mojito.
Onda Ristorante
Italian-style cocktails are modernized with fresh bursts of flavors from the old world at Onda Ristorante. The highlight of the Roman Holiday is Onda’s authentic house-made limoncello, a popular Italian lemon liqueur. It’s mixed with Grey Goose La Poire Vodka and orange juice then topped with an intriguing pear ginger fruit chip. Also available is the Aperitivo, Como Cocktail and the Black Raspberry Bellini.
FIN
At the contemporary Chinese restaurant FIN, traditional Asian flavors are complemented by specially chosen fruits and spirits. The Zen Mojito utilizes the flavor of the exotic dragon fruit by combining Bacardi Dragon Berry Rum and fresh seasonal berries. The concoction is garnished with a dehydrated dragon fruit chip, adding an unexpected textural crunch. Guests also can try The Fin Lychee Martini, Oriental Mirage or the Golden Lotus. kokomo’s Classic cocktails have been thoughtfully updated at kokomo’s, a restaurant known for its prime steaks, chops and seafood. The margarita is given a playful jolt of fresh watermelon puree and Marie Brizard Watermelon Liqueur in the Watermelon Rita. The Tom Collins gets a new face with a dash of agave nectar and Canton Ginger Liqueur making it the Gin-ger Collins. Visitors can try other twists on familiar libations including the Orange Drop, and Johnny Apple Seed.
High Limit Lounge and The Villas at The Mirage
Guests in the High Limit Lounge and The Villas at The Mirage can order from a menu of drinks specifically created for those with a keen palate. The High Roller Cosmo melds Absolut Wild Tea Vodka with Cointreau, cranberry and lime juice and is served in a martini glass rimmed with an intoxicating blend of hibiscus and lavender. Also available are the Cucumber Cooler, All-In and Orient Apple Breeze.
Sports Bar
Guests of the Sports Bar can choose from a variety of lighthearted offerings made to pair perfectly with a leisurely afternoon watching the game. The Fresh Colada is made with a secret Mirage Piña Colada mix recipe combined with Cruzan Coconut Rum then topped with a mango coconut fruit chip. Guests also can enjoy a Brooklyn Iced Tea, Cable Car or the Longshot which is a bottle of any Budweiser beer and a shot of Jim Beam, Red Stag or Devil’s Cut.
Throughout the Resort
Six new libations also are available at bars and lounges throughout the resort. The whimsical Strawberry Fields, named for the popular Beatles song, is made with Cruzan Strawberry Rum, muddled strawberrie sand mint leaves and strawberry mint fruit chip garnish. Also found resort-wide are the 1944 Mai Tai, Mirage Blood Orange Margarita, The Lost Oasis, Cosmo 89 and the Stone Side Car.

LAS VEGAS REVIEW-JOURNAL
Ever see the movie “Coyote Ugly”? Well, except for the absence of Piper Perabo, yeah, Coyote Ugly Las Vegas is pretty much just like that.
Coyote Ugly Las Vegas celebrated its 10th anniversary a week ago. And, thanks to the 2000 movie which, Stacie Morn offers, is the best B movie ever, Coyote Ugly is “the world’s most-known bar.”
Patrons name-check the movie all the time, says Morn, the club’s general manager. However, she notes, patrons won’t see bartenders dancing on the bar as much as they do in the movie because the place is so busy.
But don’t worry: Bar dancing does take place, because it wouldn’t be Coyote Ugly if it didn’t. Nor would it be Coyote Ugly without the club’s signature “in-your-face, girls-call-the-shots” vibe, Morn says.
“They boss people around, play silly games and do boot shots.”
Boot shots? “You take shots out of boots,” Morn explains. “It’s pretty gross but fun.
“We also invite patrons on the bar,” Morn continues. “Only women. We don’t do dudes on the bar. We ask women to come up on the bar and dance with us, and it’s kind of a liberating thing.” Women celebrating birthdays or impending marriages also will be invited up to do shots with Coyote Ugly ladies, and may even be encouraged to toss their bras skyward to join other bras that have been deposited on the ceiling by other patrons.
So Coyote Ugly is a freewheeling sort of place?
“Yeah,” Morn says. “I would say that, basically, women call the shots and we run the bar. So we get up there and dance, and guys just kind of drool.
“It’s a crowd-participation bar. People come in, and we want them to participate We want them to know it’s all in good fun.” Even if, as often happens, cups of water happen to be thrown throughout the course of an evening. Most patrons react well, Morn notes, “but every once in a while we’ll get a woman who wears Prada shoes and she’s upset.
“Coyote Ugly,” Morn adds, “is not for babies.”
Coyote Ugly Las Vegas at New York-New York, 3790 Las Vegas Blvd. South, opens at 6 p.m. daily and stays open until at least 2 a.m. Happy hour is from 6 to 9 p.m. Admission is $10 after 9 p.m., and locals are free.
